Q1 Wealth Check-In: Six Weeks Into the Goat Year — Is Your Wealth Corner Working?

It has been six weeks since 立春 (lìchūn) — February 4, 2027 — the day the Year of the Fire Goat officially began in feng shui terms. Six weeks since you (hopefully) refreshed your wealth corner, activated the Southeast sector for Star 8, and set your financial intentions for the year. The question now is simple: did any of it stick?

This is not a lecture. It is an audit. A 30-minute walk-through of your home's wealth zones and your own money habits, six weeks in, to catch the things that have slipped, fix what needs fixing, and reinforce what is working. Think of it as a quarterly review for your home's prosperity energy — the same way you would check in on a savings goal or a business plan after the first quarter.

If you did not set up a wealth corner in January, this article still works. Start from where you are. The year is young.

Step 1: Wealth Corner Physical Check

The 财位 (cáiwèi) — wealth corner — is typically the diagonal corner farthest from the main door of your living room or home. This is the traditional fixed wealth position, separate from the annual flying star positions. Its requirements are simple but non-negotiable:

The physical audit

Stand in front of your wealth corner and answer these questions honestly:

Question Ideal Answer If Not
Is it clean? Dust-free, no cobwebs, floor clear Clean it today. Dust on the wealth corner is dust on your finances.
Is it well-lit? Natural light or a warm lamp that is on daily Add a lamp or move an existing light source closer. A dark wealth corner is dormant wealth.
Is it clutter-free? No stacked papers, no boxes, no random storage Remove everything that does not belong. The wealth corner is not a staging area.
Is there a living element? A healthy plant, a clean water feature, or a crystal Add one. A money tree, jade plant, or lucky bamboo in good health. Replace any dying plant immediately.
Has anything moved or fallen? Everything is upright and in place Reposition. Fallen objects in the wealth corner are not a good sign — treat it as the corner telling you it needs attention.
Is a trash can nearby? No trash can, recycling bin, or dirty laundry within arm's reach Move it. Waste near the wealth corner drains financial energy. See our wealth drains guide.

If you set up your wealth corner in January and it still looks intentional — clean, lit, alive — you are doing well. If it has become a catch-all for mail, keys, and random objects (a common fate by mid-March), this is your reset moment.

Tip: Take a photo of your wealth corner right now. Compare it to how it looked in January. If you cannot see a difference, good. If you can, the photo tells you exactly what to fix.

Step 2: Southeast Sector — Star 8 Activation Check

In the 2027 annual flying star chart, Star 8 — the Prosperity Star (八白左辅星 bā bái zuǒ fǔ xīng) — sits in the Southeast. Star 8 is the most favorable wealth star in Period 9, and its position in the Southeast (Wood element territory, the classical wealth and growth sector) makes 2027 an especially strong year for activating this area.

What should have happened after February 4

  • The Southeast sector of your home should have been cleaned, decluttered, and given attention.
  • A gentle activation — a healthy plant, a small water feature, good lighting, or regular activity — should be in place.
  • The area should not be dark, closed off, or used as dead storage.

The six-week check

  • Is the SE sector still clean and active? If a room in the SE is the guest room that nobody enters, open the door daily and let light and air circulate. An unused room in a favorable sector wastes the star's energy.
  • Is the plant alive? If you placed a plant in the SE in January and it has since died or dropped most of its leaves, replace it. A dead plant in a prosperity zone is worse than no plant at all.
  • Is the water fresh? If you have a tabletop fountain or a water bowl in the SE, check that the water is clean and circulating. Stagnant, dirty water represents stagnant money — the opposite of what you want.
  • Have you spent time in this area? Star 8 responds to human activity. If the SE is your living room, great. If it is a hallway or closet, find ways to pass through it daily with intention — even pausing for a moment counts.

Step 3: South Sector — Star 4 Support

Star 4 — the Academic and Literary Star (四绿文曲星 sì lǜ wén qū xīng) — sits in the South in 2027. While Star 4 is not a direct wealth star, it governs career growth, skill development, creative projects, and educational achievements — all of which feed long-term financial health. In classical feng shui, Star 4 is also associated with romantic luck, but its primary value here is as a career and growth amplifier.

The six-week check

  • Is the South sector of your home tidy and well-lit? Star 4 is a Wood star. It appreciates green plants, natural light, and flowing air.
  • Is there a workspace, study, or creative area in the South? If so, use it actively. Star 4 rewards intellectual work and skill-building.
  • Have you started anything new this quarter? Star 4 is the "new project" star. If you have been considering a course, a certification, a side project, or a creative endeavor, the South sector supports initiation. Set up a small reminder or vision element in this area.

Step 4: Wealth Drain Scan

Our wealth drains article covers this in depth. Here is the quick six-week scan — walk your home and check for these common drains that accumulate over time:

Drain Where to Check Fix
Leaking faucets or running toilets Kitchen, bathrooms Fix immediately. Water leaking out = money leaking out. This is one of the most cited wealth drains in classical feng shui.
Broken or burned-out lights Wealth corner, SE sector, entryway Replace bulbs. A dark wealth zone is an inactive wealth zone.
Cluttered entryway Front door area Clear it. The 气口 (qìkǒu) — Mouth of Qi — is where energy (including prosperity energy) enters your home. A clogged entrance restricts everything.
Dead or dying plants Anywhere, especially wealth zones Remove or replace. A dying plant signals declining energy. No plant is better than a dead one.
Stove burners not working Kitchen The stove represents the family's financial capacity in classical feng shui. If a burner is broken, repair it — even if you do not use all four regularly.
Clutter behind the front door The wall area behind the door when it opens Many people store coats, bags, or shoes behind the door. If the door cannot open fully to 90 degrees, it is restricting the qi entering your home. Clear the space.

Wealth drains are cumulative. Any single one is minor. Three or four together create a pattern that your home's energy registers even if you do not consciously notice it.

Step 5: Money Habits Review

Feng shui supports wealth, but it does not replace habits. The physical environment and personal behavior work together. Here is a brief, honest check-in on the behavioral side — no lectures, just questions.

The habit audit

  • Did you set a financial intention on or around 初五 (chūwǔ) — the God of Wealth's day? If you followed the God of Wealth guide, you made a specific intention for the year's finances. Can you still state it clearly? If not, re-read what you wrote and put it somewhere visible.
  • Are you tracking where money goes? Not budgeting necessarily — just awareness. In feng shui philosophy, money is a form of qi. You manage what you can see.
  • Have you saved anything since February 4? Even a small, consistent deposit into a savings or investment account signals to yourself (and, in feng shui logic, to the energy of your home) that money flows in and is kept, not just spent. The amount matters less than the rhythm.
  • Have you cleared any financial clutter? Unpaid bills piling up, expired subscriptions still charging, an unopened bank statement — these are the financial equivalents of physical clutter. Each one is a small drain on your money qi.
Tip: The first quarter of any year sets the financial tone for the remaining three. If your January and February habits drifted, March is early enough to correct course. If they held, March is where you reinforce them into something permanent.

The 30-Minute Audit Table

Print this or save it. Walk your home with it in hand. Thirty minutes, start to finish.

Zone Check Time Status
Wealth corner Clean, lit, clutter-free, living element present 5 min
SE sector Star 8 activation intact — clean, bright, plant or water feature healthy 5 min
South sector Star 4 area tidy, well-lit, workspace active 3 min
Entryway Clear path, door opens fully, no clutter behind door 3 min
Kitchen All burners working, no leaking faucet, stove clean 3 min
Bathrooms No running toilets, no dripping taps, drains flowing 3 min
East sector Star 7 area quiet, no metal noise makers, no sharp objects prominently displayed 2 min
Plants (all locations) All plants healthy — remove dead leaves, water if dry, replace if dying 3 min
Money habits Intention visible, tracking active, savings rhythm in place, financial clutter cleared 3 min (reflection)

Mark each zone. If more than three zones need attention, block 60 minutes this weekend and address them. If one or two need a small fix, do it today — right now, while the audit is fresh.

Setting Up Q2

With Q1 audited, here are three forward-looking actions to carry into April through June:

1. Refresh the SE sector for late spring

Star 8 remains in the Southeast all year. As the weather warms, this sector benefits from fresh air, open windows, and — if applicable — a balcony garden with new growth. Living energy in the SE amplifies Star 8 through spring and summer. If your SE has a window, open it daily.

2. Keep the East quiet

Star 7 (七赤破军星 qī chì pò jūn xīng) — the Robbery Star — remains in the East in 2027. The spring instinct is to activate the East, because East is Wood's home direction. Resist this. Keep the East clean, soft-toned, and free of metallic noise. A calm East protects against the negative qualities of Star 7 — financial disputes, theft, and carelessness with valuables. If your front door is in the East, be extra mindful of locking up and securing valuables.

3. Maintain a money rhythm

Consistency matters more than amount. Whatever saving, investing, or debt-reduction rhythm you started in January, keep it through Q2. If you did not start one, March is the month to begin. Even a small weekly transfer into a separate account creates a pattern of accumulation that, in feng shui terms, mirrors the gathering energy you are cultivating in your home.

The Q4 wealth audit from last September showed what happens when you let the year drift. This Q1 check-in is how you prevent that. Thirty minutes now saves months of catch-up later.
