Before 立春: Taking Down 2026 Cures and Placing 2027's (Feb 4 Deadline)

Every year the annual 飞星 (fēixīng) — flying stars — shift position at 立春 (lìchūn), Start of Spring. This year that falls on Thursday, February 4, 2027. Whatever cures and remedies you placed for 2026 are about to become irrelevant — and in some cases, actively unhelpful — once the new stars land. You have roughly 48 hours from the time you're reading this.

This is the annual maintenance that most feng shui practitioners consider non-negotiable. Think of it as changing the filter in your HVAC system: the system still runs without it, but it's not protecting you the way it should. Instead, it gives you a practical, room-by-room sequence for taking down 2026 and putting up 2027.

Why 立春, Not New Year's Day

A common misconception: the flying stars change on Chinese New Year's Day. They don't. In classical feng shui and BaZi, the year changes at 立春 — the solar term marking the start of spring. This year, 立春 falls on February 4, which is two days before Chinese New Year (February 6). The stars won't wait for the festivities to begin.

In 2026, the annual center star was 1. For 2027, the center star shifts to 9 — the Right Bixing star, a generally auspicious star associated with celebration and multiple blessings. Every other star moves accordingly. The sectors that needed cures in 2026 are not the same sectors that need cures now.

Step 1: Retire 2026 Cures

Walk through your home sector by sector and remove everything that was placed specifically for the 2026 annual chart. Here's what that typically includes:

If a cure was placed for a permanent reason — say a mirror correction, a plant that's always been there, or a water feature tied to the home's base chart — that stays. Only remove items specifically placed for the 2026 annual stars.

Step 2: Clean and Store

Don't just throw retired cures into a box. These objects have been working for a year, absorbing and redirecting energy. Treat them with respect.

Metal Cures (Wind Chimes, Brass Objects, Coins)

Wipe down with a damp cloth. If tarnished, a gentle polish restores them. Wrap individually in soft cloth — not plastic bags, which trap stale qi — and store in a clean, dry place. These are reusable. You may need them again next year in a different sector.

Salt Cures

If you used a salt-water cure (a jar with salt, coins, and water), dispose of the contents carefully. Do not reuse the salt. Wrap the jar in newspaper and discard it with regular trash. Classically, salt cures absorb negative energy and should not be recycled.

Fire Element Cures (Red Items, Candles, Lamps)

These can be cleaned and stored for future use in a Fire-needing sector. Red fabric items can be washed. Candles that are mostly used up can be discarded.

Living Cures (Plants)

A plant placed as a Wood cure in 2026 doesn't need to be thrown away. Move it to a sector where Wood energy is welcome in 2027, or to a well-lit neutral spot. Healthy plants are always better kept than discarded.

Step 3: Place 2027 Cures

With 2026 cures removed and cleaned, place the 2027 remedies according to the 2027 chart. The key sectors that need attention this year:

For the favorable sectors — the southeast (Star 8, prosperity) and the south (Star 4, academic and creative energy) — activation rather than suppression is the goal. The Tai Sui Sector: Southwest

太岁 (Tài Suì), the Grand Duke Jupiter, sits in the Southwest for the entire 丁未 year. This is not a malevolent force — it's a gravitational authority. The traditional rule is simple: do not disturb. No renovations, no hammering, no digging in this sector. If your desk faces southwest, consider angling it slightly so you're not confronting the Tai Sui head-on. A Pi Yao (貔貅, píxiū) or Qilin figure placed in the sector facing southwest is the classical gesture of respect. It doesn't need to be large or expensive — intention is what matters.

Sui Po (岁破) — the year-breaker — sits opposite, in the Northeast. San Sha (三煞) occupies the West. Both sectors should also stay relatively undisturbed. Avoid starting renovations in these areas during 2027 if you can help it.

• Healthy plants — move them if needed, but don't discard them.
