• Jade plant (翡翠木) — succulent, easy to care for, coin-shaped leaves represent wealth accumulation.
• Orchid (兰花 lánhuā) — elegant and refined, symbolizes virtue and friendship. A good choice for apartment entryways with limited space.

However, traditional practice makes a distinction:

• On the front door itself: 福 is placed upright. The main door is the formal entry — inverting the character here is considered casual or even disrespectful in some traditions.
• On interior walls, cabinets, or water jars: 福 may be hung inverted (倒福), signaling that fortune has arrived inside the home.

When to Put Decorations Up and Down

• Put up: After 小年 (xiǎonián), January 30, 2027. Some families wait until 除夕 morning (February 5).
